Wonderful World of Animation Spectacular
At Disney’s Hollywood Studios
In spring of 2019, Mousetrappe Media worked with Disney Parks Live Entertainment on a new nightly spectacular at Disney’s Hollywood Studios: The Wonderful World of Animation. An ode to Disney’s 90 year history as a leading animation studio, the show featured properties ranging from Steamboat Willie to Toy Story 4 at opening and is regularly updated to spotlight Disney’s latest Feature Animation release.
Over the course of the show, the Chinese Theater is transformed into environments from properties representing the show’s six main themes: Yensid’s workshop from The Sorcerer’s Apprentice for magic, the Land of the Dead from Coco for family, a series of comic strip panels of Metroville from The Incredibles for adventure, the forest from Sleeping Beauty for romance, Tamatoa’s cave from Moana for villainy, and “the internet” from Ralph Breaks the Internet for friendship. Each segment takes on the unique style and musical score of the central property, offering a vibrant new perspective on the many animated films in Disney’s repertoire.
In the finale, the theater bursts into a prismatic countdown through every animated film Disney has ever created, starting with the most recent release and ending with Snow White. Then the show returns to where it all started: Mickey Mouse. Medici Media worked with Disney Feature Animation on custom animation of Mickey in the Rudish style so that he appears to climb up on the roof of the theater before hopping down and walking inside—a clever nod to the Mickey’s Runaway Railway attraction that opened inside the Chinese Theater the following year.
